Update on the French “Sustainable Tourism Committee”

To mark the two-year anniversary of the “Assises du Tourisme Durable” on Wednesday, June 14th, Frédéric Hocquard, Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of tourism and nightlife, and Corinne Menegaux, Managing Director of “Paris je t’aime” – Tourist Office, took stock of last year’s tourism results, the outlook for the coming summer and the year’s major Parisian highlights.

On July 1, 2021, the City of Paris and the Tourist Office organized the first “Assises du Tourisme Durable”.

A progress report took place on June 14, 2023 at the Académie du Climat.

The plenary session, moderated by Frédéric Hocquard and Corinne Menegaux, brought together some 300 players and professionals from the Paris tourism industry. Amongst them was Céline Trouillard, Creative Department Manager at Lafayette Parisvery concerned by the sustainability of our industry and its impact on the environment.

In the space of two years, two-thirds of the recommendations made at the 1st conference have been implemented or are in the process of being implemented. In particular, some are well advanced, such as phasing out the use of single-use plastic and developing bicycle travel.

Stakeholders and residents are mobilized to promote better-regulated tourism in Paris, favoring longer stays, in order to achieve a new balance in the medium term.
